ID: Q227755

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

SYMPTOMS

Users with roaming profiles who change their Windows 2000 desktop icons by clicking Change Icon on the Effects tab in Display properties receive default desktop icons when they log on to the domain with a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 client.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

On the Effects tab in Display properties, you can change the default desktop icons for My Computer, My Documents, and so on. When a user with a roaming profile changes one or more of these icons on a Windows 2000-based computer and then later logs on to the domain using a Windows NT 4.0-based computer, the user may see different icons from those that are displayed by a Windows 2000-based computer.
