Messaging Services Unavailable After Windows 2000 Upgrade

SYMPTOMS

When you are upgrading a computer with Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Mail Services and Windows Messaging configured, the System Compatibility report contains the following error message:

Windows Messaging Services

Setup has detected a version of the Messaging application programming interface that does not function on Windows 2000. You will have to obtain an upgrade pack for your e-mail program, or reinstall it after upgrading to Windows 2000.
After the upgrade process is finished, the Microsoft Mail Post Office folder is still available, but the Windows Messaging service does not function properly.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
