Computer Hangs When You Eject PC Card Network Adapter

SYMPTOMS

If you eject a PC Card network adapter without properly stopping it and you then insert it again, your computer may stop responding (hang).


CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the drivers for some PC Card network adapters are unable to handle the unexpected adapter removal. This is not a Windows 2000 problem.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact your PC Card network adapter manufacturer to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.


MORE INFORMATION

This functionality has been added by the manufacturers of the CardBus PC Card and DEC 21143-based adapters. This functionality is not included in 3Com 3C574-TX adapter and Xircom 10/100 PC Cards.

This problem does not occur with modem or ATA flash memory cards.
