Cannot Play .wav Files Using Sound Blaster Vibra Sound Card on NEC Computer

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play .wav (audio) files on a Windows 2000-based NEC computer using a Vibra 16 CT4170 sound card, you may hear quick bursts of static instead of recognizable sounds.


CAUSE

This issue occurs because the BIOS on the NEC computer configures other devices to use IRQ 9, generating a conflict with the sound card.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact the hardware manufacturer to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.
