  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SUMMARY

After you disable a hardware device using Device Manager (Devmgmt.msc), you may be prompted to restart your computer. The device may remain enabled until you restart the computer.

MORE INFORMATION

This situation can occur when a child device connected to the parent to be disabled vetoes the command. If an active device is still present, a reboot is necessary.

Or, you can try disabling the child device before the parent to prevent needing to reboot the computer.
