Windows 2000 Setup Hangs on Compaq Armada 7800

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Windows 2000 on a Compaq Armada 7800 computer, Text-mode Setup displays the following message after the device drivers are loaded:

Setup is starting Microsoft Windows 2000

The computer may then stop responding (hang). To quit Setup, you must unplug the computer and remove the battery to turn the computer off.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the computer's BIOS is not compatible with Windows 2000. A BIOS update may be required.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Compaq to obtain the latest BIOS for the computer. Update information is available at the following Compaq Web site:
