Installing Canon MultiPASS C5500 Driver May Result in Error Message

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Canon version 2.30 driver for the Canon MultiPASS C5500 fax/printer, you may receive the following error message:

Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed Sampke Access Data Source.

After you acknowledge the error message and finish the installation, the fax/printer appears in the Printers folder and prints correctly.

CAUSE

This error message occurs because the driver installation loads a version of Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) that is different from the version that is installed with Windows 2000. When the Canon software makes a call to ODBC, the Windows 2000 version is referenced.
