DHCP Assigned Addresses Cause 3COM OfficeConnect Router to Reset

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use any of the following 3COM products, the device may display a reset or the network interface may show transmission in only one direction:

  • OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem (3C891 S/T-interface)


  • OfficeConnect ISDN LAN Modem (3C892 U-interface)


  • OfficeConnect 56K LAN Modem (3C886)



CAUSE

This issue can occur if Windows 2000 is using a DHCP assigned address on a network interface. The firmware for the 3COM devices listed earlier in this article causes the reset when working with DHCP assigned addresses and Windows 2000.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain the latest firmware revision for your device from 3COM. For information about how to do so, view the following 3COM Web site:
