  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer to Windows 2000, Control Panel extensions for your video adapter are no longer available. For example, extra tabs and configuration settings you previously used for this video adapter may be missing or unavailable.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the upgrade process disables third-party video adapter drivers, and then installs Windows 2000 drivers. Because of this, the Control Panel extensions provided by the third-party drivers are no longer available.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, install a driver provided by the third-party manufacturer:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.

  2. Click Properties, click Settings, and then click Advanced.

  3. Click the Adapter tab, click Properties, click Driver, and then click Update Driver.

  4. Click Next, click Display a list of the known drivers, and then click Next.

  5. Click Have Disk, insert the driver disk into drive A, and then click OK.

  6. Click Finish.

  7. Close all open windows, and then restart your computer.

  8. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.

  9. Click Properties, click Settings, and then click Advanced.

  10. Click the Monitor tab, click Properties, click the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then follow the instructions on the screen to finish installing your monitor.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Control Panel Extensions are usually included in third-party drivers, and are used to configure more detailed settings for the video adapter such as modes, Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) revisions, and so on.

This is a known issue with the Real 3D Starfighter Advanced Graphics Port (AGP) video adapter.
