The Shared Access service could not start because another process has taken control of the kernel-mode translation module. This may occur when the Connection Sharing component has been enabled within the Routing and Remote Access Manager. If this is the case, please remove the Connection Sharing component and restart the Shared Access service.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you enable the Connection Sharing component within the RRAS Manager.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, disable the Connection Sharing component, and then restart RRAS. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Network And Dial-Up Connections, right-click the connection you are sharing, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Shared Access tab, click to clear the Enable shared access for this connection check box, and then click OK.

  4. Restart RRAS.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION
