Certificates Published to Directory Service Lose Property Information

ID: Q228826

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you publish a certificate to the Directory service (DS), the certificate may seem to lose some defined properties (such as the friendly name and description).

CAUSE

The certificate properties are removed because of limitations in the Directory service store (which does not support certificate properties) because the certificate is not published in pure X.509 format.

When you configure a certificate to be published to the DS, the certificate shows its defined properties (such as the description or friendly name). However, once the certificate is published to the DS, this information is no longer available.
