MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To make the change described above or add the value, modify the DelayStart value as follows. This value indicates the number of milliseconds to wait before starting the service:

Add value: DelayStart
Type: DWORD
Minimum value: 1000 (decimal = 1 second)
Maximum value: FFFFFFFF (hex = 4294967 seconds)
Default decimal data value: 1000 or 45000 if you see the above message
You may want to modify this value if you want the RSM service to start more quickly. This value is located in the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\NTMS
Removable Storage Manager (RSM) makes it easy to manage online libraries (such as changers and jukeboxes) and track removable tapes and disks. RSM facilitates communication between removable-media storage systems and data management programs, such as Windows Backup and Remote Storage Service (RSS). RSM labels, catalogs, and tracks all media; controls the drives, slots, and doors; and provides uniform drive cleaning operations.
