Upgrade from Windows 95/98 Does Not Disable or Remove Incompatible Norton Utilities

ID: Q229001

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Professional, several Norton Utilities components that are incompatible with Windows 2000 are still accessible.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because you can still run these programs by running Norton Utilities Integrator. You can start Norton Utilities Integrator from the Start menu, the shortcut left on the desktop, or from the Utilities menu in Norton System Doctor.

The following tools are still accessible and attempt to run:

  • Norton WinDoctor

  • Norton Optimization Wizard

  • Norton Disk Doctor

STATUS

This behavior is by design. The update process does not physically remove the programs from your computer. It simply removes the links to these programs from the Start menu.
