Changing NetWare Password Prompts User for Fully Qualified User Name

SYMPTOMS
When you log on to your Windows 2000-based computer, you may be prompted to change your Windows 2000 and NetWare Directory Services (NDS) passwords, but you may not be able to change your NDS password if you do not enter your fully qualified NDS user name. Also, if you try to change your NDS password after you have logged on to your computer, you may not be prompted to enter your fully qualified NDS user name.
CAUSE
This issue may occur when your NDS and Windows 2000 passwords are about to expire, and your Windows 2000 and NDS passwords are synchronized.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue:
- Change your Windows 2000 password, and then click Cancel when you are prompted to change your NDS password.
- After you have logged on to your computer, change your NDS password to the same password as your new Windows 2000 password.
NOTE: When you change your NDS password after the you have logged on to the computer, you are not prompted to enter your fully qualified NDS user name.

Client Services for NetWare (CSNW) provides pass through user authentication to NDS. Because the CSNW tool in Control Panel is only configured during installation, users may not be familiar with their fully qualified NDS user names.
When you log on to your computer, CSNW obtains your fully qualified NDS user name from information that is stored in an encrypted file on your hard disk. This user information is then passed on to NDS. Because of this, when you change your password by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Change Password, you are not prompted to enter your fully qualified NDS user name.
However, if you try to change your password at the initial logon screen, you will be prompted to enter a fully qualified NDS user name because CSNW has not obtained your NDS user information.
