ID: Q229065

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

SYMPTOMS

When you are using a computer running Gateway Services for NetWare (GSNW) or Client Services for NetWare (CSNW) and you attempt to delete a file on a NetWare volume, you may receive the following error message:

File not found
This error message occurs even though the file is listed when you use the DIR command to list the files on the NetWare volume.

CAUSE

This error message can occur if the file you are attempting to delete is a binary image of a program that is currently running.

RESOLUTION

Quit the running program before you attempt to delete the file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The "File not found" error message is misleading in this case. A more appropriate message would be similar to "File could not be deleted."
