NET USE Shows "Unavailable" Status for a Drive on a NetWare Server

ID: Q229073

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

SYMPTOMS

If you map a drive to a share on a NetWare server by using the NET USE command, detach from the server using the Who Am I dialog box, and then issue the NET USE command again, the connection is still displayed, but with a status of "Unavailable."

CAUSE

Detaching from the NetWare server by using the Who Am I dialog box does not, by design, remove the connection permanently. Because the NET USE command was used to establish the connection, Windows attempts to connect to the share at the next logon. The connection is retained, but unavailable until the next logon.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
