SYMPTOMS

After you install the IBM ViaVoice 98 version 5.2 speech recognition program and try to use the IBM SpeakPad tool, the IBM Vocabulary Expander tool or the IBM Vocabulary Manager tool, you may receive the following error message:

VoicePad caused an invalid page fault in module Mfc42.dll at 015f:5f40191a.


CAUSE

This issue can occur if you have the updated versions of the Mfc42.dll and Msvcrt.dll files on your computer. The IBM ViaVoice 98 version 5.2 speech recognition program is not totally compatible with the updated versions of these files.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact IBM to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this behavior is not caused by a problem in Windows 98, but may be caused by design changes in Windows 98. For more information about resolving this issue, contact the program's manufacturer.
