Windows 2000 May Not Use a Bootable Floppy Disk to Start

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Windows using a bootable floppy disk, Windows may start using the hard disk instead.


CAUSE

This issue can occur if a bootable copy of the Microsoft Windows 2000 CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive and you configure your computer in the BIOS to start using the following devices in the following order:

  • CD-ROM drive first.
  • Floppy drive second.
  • Hard drive third.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the Windows 2000 CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive or configure your computer in the BIOS to use the floppy drive first to start the computer.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 2000.
