SYMPTOMSWhen you attempt to upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95 to Windows 2000 Professional on a computer with Norton Your Eyes Only version 1.0 installed, Setup may stop after the first (pre-copy) phase. After the computer restarts, you are prompted to log on by the Your Eyes Only "Boot Lock" mechanism. When you log on, you may see a black screen with a "@" symbol (or "at" sign) at the bottom of the screen. CAUSEUpgrades of Windows 95 with Norton Your Eyes Only installed are not supported. When later versions of Your Eyes Only are detected, Windows 2000 Setup is blocked. However, upgrades over version 1.0 of Norton Your Eyes Only are not blocked. RESOLUTIONStart your computer with the Norton Boot Lock disk (version 4.02) created during Your Eyes Only Installation, and uninstall Your Eyes Only. Then, start Windows 95 and completely uninstall Your Eyes Only before upgrading to Windows 2000. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
The hard disk should be recoverable using the Norton Boot Lock disk created during Your Eyes Only installation. If you do not have the Norton Boot Lock disk, please contact Symantec for information about how to remove Your Eyes Only. Additional query words:
