Add New Hardware Wizard Lists No Tape Backup Devices

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install a legacy (non-Plug and Play) tape backup device using the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard, no tape drives are listed. Instead, you see the following message:

Unable to find any drivers for this device


CAUSE

There are no non-Plug and Play tape drives listed in the %SystemRoot%\Inf\Tape.inf file, so no devices are listed.


RESOLUTION

To install the device, click Have Disk and select the .inf file on the driver disk provided by the tape drive's manufacturer.


STATUS

This behavior is by design.
