SUMMARY

Some games included with Windows 2000 include a "boss" key.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows 2000 includes the following games:

  • Freecell
  • Minesweeper
  • Pinball
  • Solitaire
All of these games except Pinball have a "boss" key.

Several game manufacturers over the years have included a hotkey or "boss" key. The purpose of a "boss" key is to have a quick way to hide a game if needed. The most common implementation is to change the screen to a spreadsheet.

The "boss" key in Windows 2000 games is the ESC key. If you press ESC while playing one of the games listed above that includes "boss" key functionality, the game minimizes to a Budget.xls button on the taskbar (as if the game were a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet).
