How to Add Digital Print Monitor to Windows 2000

SUMMARY

The Digital Print Monitor tool is not included in Windows 2000. This article describes how to manually install Digital Print Monitor using files from the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM.

NOTE: If you have Digital Print Monitor installed in Windows NT 4.0 and you upgrade to Windows 2000, Digital Print Monitor still functions after the upgrade.

1. From the I386 (for Intel-based computers) or the Alpha (for Alpha-based computers) folder on the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM, copy the following files to a temporary folder on your hard disk:

   decpsmon.dl_
   decpsmon.hl_
   monitor.in_




2. At a command prompt, change to the temporary folder to which you copied the files in step 1, and then type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:

   expand decpsmon.dl_ decpsmon.dll
   expand decpsmon.hl_ decpsmon.hlp
   expand monitor.in_ monitor.inf




3. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.



4. Click the printer with which you want to use Digital Print Monitor.



5. On the File menu, click Server Properties.



6. On the Ports tab, click Add Port.



7. Click New Port Type.



8. In the Copy files from box, provide the path to the temporary folder you used in step 1, and then click OK.



9. Click Digital Network Port.



10. On the Add Port screen supply the TCP/IP address, port type, and name.



11. Optionally, add information to the Options page.



12. Click OK.



13. Click Close.



14. On the Ports tab, note the new port name.



15. Close the Print Server Properties dialog box.
