SYMPTOMS

When configuring a Group Policy, an administrator is unable to see the complete custom message in Limit Profile Size policy properties without scrolling through the dialog box with the text-select pointer.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you are trying to view more than 43 characters. The size of the dialog box is limited to displaying 43 characters.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).
To work around this issue, use Registry Editor to view the complete message in the following registry key:

HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\GroupPolicyObject\LocalUser\Software \Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\ProfileQuotaMessage
NOTE: To view all of the custom message, verify that you are viewing the binary data in a byte format.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If a custom message is longer than 500 characters, the following default error message is generated:

You have exceeded your profile storage space. Before you can log off, you need to move some items from your profile to the network or local storage.
