Active Directory Sites and Services Tool Does Not Handle Icons in High Color (16-Bit) Settings Properly

ID: Q233371

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the High Color (16-bit) display setting with either a Cirrus Logic 5434 Compatible video adapter set to a resolution of 800 X 600 or a Matrox Graphics Productiva G100 AGP video adapter set to a resolution of 1024 X 768, you may notice that the icons in the Results pane of the Active Directory Sites and Services snap-in are displayed in gray and that the Scope pane is displayed in yellow.

CAUSE

This occurs because the Organizational Unit (OU) icon is available in 256 colors only. Also, some 2D video adapters do not handle 3D technology very well and must use lower settings to avoid distortion.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, use the 265 Color display setting.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The Active Directory Sites and Services snap-in has small and large icons for OUs. These icons have a dithered pattern of yellow and gray.
