SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup from a command prompt and your computer restarts, you may receive the following error message:

Error Loading Operating System

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the drive that contains Windows was formatted with NTFS during Setup, and the disk geometry is being incorrectly reported during Setup.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, run Setup again formatting the partition to use FAT or FAT32 during Setup. The volume can be converted to NTFS after setup completes. You can also, run Setup and repartition the drive creating a smaller partition (under 4 Gigabytes), and format it NTFS.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
