Floppy Disk Drive Light Is Active During Defragmentation

SYMPTOMS

When you try to defragment a drive in your computer, the floppy disk drive light may indicate your drive is being used every few seconds.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you previously removed a volume (drive) letter from a volume, and confirmed this removal when you received this confirmation prompt:

Removing the drive letter of a volume may cause programs to no longer run. Are you sure you want to remove this drive letter?

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
