Error Messages When Trying to Change User Properties

SYMPTOMS

When you try to change the properties of any user, you may receive the following error message:

The following error occurred while attempting to save properties for user user name:
Access is denied
If you try to add users to a group or delete users from a group, you may receive the following error message:
The following error occurred while attempting to save properties for group group name on computer computer name:
Access is denied.
Also, if you try to use the "Users and Passwords" tool in Control Panel, you may be prompted to provide Administrator credentials to continue.


CAUSE

This issue can occur if you log on to the computer as a guest.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, log on as an administrator before trying to change user properties.


STATUS

This behavior is by design.
