Cannot Disconnect Active RAS Connection with Terminal Services Enabled

ID: Q237288

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

RAS connections are shared by all Terminal Services users who are connected to a Windows 2000 server with Terminal Services enabled. When a user attempts to disconnect a RAS connection that was created in another session, the following error message is displayed:

It is not possible to disconnect at this time. Most likely, this connection is using one or more protocols that do not support Plug-and-Play.

CAUSE

When a RAS connection is established, the current Session ID is added to the port control block. When a user attempts to disconnect a RAS connection, the current Session ID must match that of the port control block. In other words, a RAS connection can be disconnected only from inside the session in which it was established.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
