SYMPTOMSWhen two Windows 2000-based computers create a NetBIOS Frame protocol (NBF) session with each other, there may be some cases in which data is sent twice. This causes a delay. CAUSEPrograms that use an NBF session to send traffic between hosts set up a receive buffer on the client to cache data received in the session. When a data frame that exceeds the receive buffer is received, and there is no pending RECEIVE packet for that session, a RECEIVE_OUTSTANDING packet is sent to the sending node when a NO_RECEIVE packet should be sent. This results in extra data transmissions taking place. RESOLUTIONThe packet behavior does not cause the session to stop working; it only causes a retransmission of data in some cases. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. Additional query words: netbeui
