Terminal Services Does Not Prompt You to Enter Install Mode

SYMPTOMS

When you install some programs on a computer running Windows 2000 Terminal Server in application server mode, you may not be prompted to switch to use install mode before you continue the installation.


CAUSE

This issue can occur if the setup program you are installing is not named Setup.exe or Install.exe.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, manually enter install mode before you install the program. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, and then click Install.

Windows 2000 Terminal Services only recognizes programs that use the Setup.exe or Install.exe setup programs.

Programs that you want multiple users to use on Terminal Server must be installed in install mode in order to work properly.
