SYMPTOMSYour computer may stop responding (hang) during the installation of Microsoft ActiveMovie if a non-administrator installs or runs ActiveMovie for the first time after new hardware (such as a sound card) is installed. CAUSEActiveMovie caches information about each device in the registry the first time the device is detected. However, this key in the registry requires administrator permission to be read. If a non-administrator is the first one to run ActiveMovie, it does not succeed. When this occurs, ActiveMovie hangs while waiting for the information it requires. RESOLUTIONAs a workaround, have a user with local system administrator rights install and run ActiveMovie first. If new hardware is installed, an administrator may have to run ActiveMovie again. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. Additional query words: kbfaqw2kperf
