SUMMARY

Windows 2000 Task Scheduler offers many features, including the "Notify Me of Missed Tasks" option. This article describes how to enable this option and provides an example of how this option works.

MORE INFORMATION

To enable the "Notify Me of Missed Tasks" option:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Scheduled Tasks.

  2. On the Advanced menu, click Notify Me of Missed Tasks.

NOTE: You must be a member of the Administrators group to enable this option.

Whenever the Task Scheduler service is started (for example, at startup, after a pause, or after sleep mode) and the current time exceeds the next run time of any task, the "Notify Me on Missed Tasks" option generates a message and a Task Scheduler log entry. For example:
---------------------------
Task Scheduler Service
---------------------------
Some tasks did not execute at their scheduled times because the Task Scheduler Service was not running. You can view the list of missed tasks, and attempt to run them again, from within the Scheduled Tasks folder.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
On the Advanced menu, click View Log to view entries for a missed task. The following example shows log entries that are generated for a missed task:
"Calculator.job" (calc.exe)
Finished 9/27/1999 4:18:02 PM
Result: The task completed with an exit code of (0).
"Task Scheduler Service"
Started at 9/27/1999 4:21:46 PM
"Task Scheduler Service"
Some tasks may not have executed at their scheduled times between 9/27/1999 4:18:02 PM and 9/27/1999 4:21:46 PM, either because the Task Scheduler Service was not running, or because the computer was hibernating.
