SYMPTOMS

The Windows 2000 netsh command allows you to enter an invalid value for the Internet Protocol (IP) address of a local interface.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

Windows 2000 includes a command-line utility that you can use to make some configuration changes to the TCP/IP configuration of a local interface. One of the items that you can change is the IP address. Using this command in Windows 2000, you can inadvertently change the IP address to an invalid value.
