Program Window Disappears When Dragged to Different Monitor

ID: Q242886

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

SYMPTOMS

If you configure one of your multiple monitors to use negative coordinates in Windows 2000 and you drag a program that has a non-rectangular window to the monitor, the program is not displayed on the monitor.

NOTE: The program window disappears as soon as the mouse pointer moves over the negative coordinates of the workspace.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, do not drag the program window using the mouse pointer from positive to negative coordinates. To move the window to the monitor that uses negative coordinates, follow these steps:

  1. Drag the program window to a place where the window is visible on both monitors without moving the mouse pointer onto the monitor that uses negative coordinates.

  2. Move the mouse pointer to the monitor that uses negative coordinates, and then click to move the program window in that monitor. Drag the program window where you want it within the same monitor workspace.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use the multi-monitor feature in Windows 2000, the negative coordinates are left of the primary monitor.
