SYMPTOMS
When you remotely view an Windows NT 4.0 event log or open a saved Windows NT 4.0 log file using a computer running Windows 2000, the logs does not display the correct information in some warning and error events.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because Windows 2000 populates the log file with different events than the Windows NT 4.0 events.
RESOLUTIONTo work around this issue, use a computer running Windows NT 4.0 to view the log files that contain an event with the text "The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer." STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. Additional query words: event logs nt display remote message
