Setupmgx.dll Error Message When Running Setup Manager

SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup Manager (Setupmgr.exe), the following error message may be displayed:

The file c:\dir\setupmgx.dll could not be loaded or is corrupt. The Setup Manager cannot continue.
NOTE: Where dir is the folder in which Setpmgr.exe is located.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Setupmgr.exe is extracted from the Deploy.cab file and copied to the local hard disk, but the Setupmgx.dll file is not available or is corrupted.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

  1. Extract the Setupmgx.dll file and place it in the same folder in which Setupmgr.exe is located.


  2. In Windows Explorer, double-click the Deploy.cab file (the file is located on the CD-ROM in the Support\Tools folder).


  3. Right-click the file, and click Extract (or you can simply double-click the file).


  4. Type the appropriate folder in which you want to place each selected file.



STATUS

This behavior is by design.
