SYMPTOMSWhen you attempt to install a Microsoft Language Monitor-based printer driver in Windows 2000 from the console of a computer on which the operating system is located on an NTFS partition and you are logged on as a member of the Power Users group, the installation of the driver does not succeed. The following error message is generated after files are copied and you click Finish:
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because a Language Monitor dynamic-link library (DLL) file needs to be copied to the System32 folder. However, only administrators and the system can write to this folder. Members of the Users group cannot install printers, and so do not encounter this issue. RESOLUTIONTo work around this problem, use any of the following methods:
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /c "LocalComputerName" /b "Printer Name" /f %windir%\inf\ntprint.inf /r "PortName" /m "DriverModelName"NOTE: This command must be issued by an administrator for the computer/domain. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
