Poor Printout on HP 1600 CM/PS After Upgrading to Windows 2000

ID: Q245592

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 to Windows 2000, printing to your Hewlett-Packard (HP) 1600 CM/PS printer may produce pictures that do not match the colors displayed on the screen. Some images may appear noticeably darker.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Image Color Mapping (ICM) files are not updated to the Windows 2000 versions during the upgrade of the printer drivers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, update the printer driver:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.

  2. Right-click the HP 1600 CM/PS printer, and then click Properties.

  3. On the Advanced tab, click New Driver.

  4. Click Next.

  5. In the Manufacturers box, click HP. In the Models box, click 1600 CM/PS.

  6. Click Next or Finish until the wizard finishes.

This updates and installs the correct ICM code.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
