Complete Memory Dump Setting Is Default Using 2 GB of RAM or More

SUMMARY

When you install 2 gigabytes (GB) or more physical RAM on your computer, Windows 2000 Startup and Recovery option uses the Complete Memory Dump setting by default.

When a computer contains 2 GB or more of RAM, the Startup and Recovery option should use the Kernel Memory Dump setting by default.

You can change the default value using the following steps:

  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.


  2. On the Advanced tab, click Startup and Recovery.


  3. Under Write Debugging Information, click Kernel Memory Dump, and then click OK.


A complete memory dump with 2 GB of memory in the computer requires 2 GB of free disk space and takes a long time to write the dump file. In the majority of cases you can find the issue if you use the Kernel Memory Dump setting.
