ID: Q246356

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

SYMPTOMS

When you creating the server cluster resource called IIS Server Instance with either the New Resource or the Configure Application Wizard, you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred attempting to read properties for the <IIS5WWW> resource:
An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist.
Error ID: 1008 (000003f0).
OK

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the IIS service is not installed on the node that owns the group in which you are adding the IIS Server Instance resource.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Add/Remove Programs tool to install the IIS services needed onto all nodes in the server cluster.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base when it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

For failover to work properly for any IIS services, the services must be installed on all computers in the Server cluster and you must run IISSync to synchronize the IIS settings.

If you want to use cluster service to provide restart capabilities but not failover for the IIS Server Instance resource as well as resources that it depends on, like IP address, you can install IIS services on one node and then when you create the IIS server instance resource make that node the only possible owner. As long as the group that you add the IIS resource to is owned by the node with the service installed, it works.
