Reinstall Fails to Update Networking Properly After BIOS Updated

SYMPTOMS

After you update the basic input/output system (BIOS) on your computer to an Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) BIOS and then reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, your network adapter may be listed as adapter name#2, with no settings configured.

When you attempt to configure adapter name#2 with the settings for your network adapter, you receive a message stating that the Internet Protocol (IP) address is in use by adapter name#1. However, Device Manager does not show any adapter name#1.


RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, follow these instructions:

  1. From the Microsoft Management Console, click View and then click Show Hidden Devices.


  2. Right-click the old device, and then click Uninstall.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.
