3Com/U.S. Robotics 56K Modem Causes Windows 2000 to Bugcheck

ID: Q247217

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

SYMPTOMS

When you start a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, with a 3Com/U.S. Robotics 56K Plug and Play fax/modem installed, the system bugchecks during the startup process, and you receive the following error message:

SpTimeoutSynchronized: Adapter 0X80F09790 had interrupt pending - the system may not be delivering interrupts from this adapter

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Intel multiprocessor specification table does not contain entries for peripheral component interconnect (PCI) devices, such as this modem, and Windows 2000 does not correctly map the interrupt request level (IRQL).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.
