SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional on a computer that has advanced power management (APM) disabled, Windows uses the Home/Office Desk power scheme by default. When you enable APM and then modify the Home/Office Desk power scheme, Windows retains that power scheme as the default.
RESOLUTIONTo work around this issue, manually select the power scheme you saved. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. MORE INFORMATIONYou are able to manually select the power scheme you saved because the system preserves your changes to that power scheme even though it selects the Portable/Laptop power scheme by default.
