SYMPTOMS

When you connect to a Windows 2000-based computer running Terminal Services that has the "Disabled Wallpaper" check box selected, the wallpaper is still displayed on your Terminal Services client computer desktop.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Active Desktop is enabled on your computer. The "Disable Wallpaper" setting does not disable the Active Desktop feature, and because of this, the wallpaper is still displayed on your Terminal Services client computer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use the appropriate method to disable the Active Desktop feature:

Disable Active Desktop for all Connections to a Terminal Server

  1. Log on to your Windows 2000-based computer running Terminal Services with administrator credentials.

  2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Terminal Services Configuration.

  3. Click the Server Settings folder, and then double-click Active Desktop.

  4. Click to select the Disable Active Desktop check box, and then click OK.

Disable Active Desktop for a User Profile

  1. Log on to your Windows 2000-based computer with the appropriate user credentials.

  2. Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to Active Desktop, and then click the Show Web Content command to remove the check mark.

MORE INFORMATION

When you enable Terminal Services on a Windows 2000-based computer, a RDP-TCP connection is created, and the "Disable Wallpaper" check box is automatically selected. This configuration improves screen redraw time on the Terminal Services client computer, and saves resources on the Windows 2000-based computer running Terminal Services.
