Cannot Remotely Administer the Remote Installation Service

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to administer the Remote Installation Service (RIS) on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based member server, working from a Windows 2000 Server-based domain controller that does not have RIS installed, you cannot perform this task. The 'Remote Installation Service' tab is not available in the member server's Properties dialog box when you view it from the domain controller.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, install RIS on the domain controller and then restart the domain controller. The 'Remote Installation Service' tab now appears in the Properties dialog box on the member server when you administer it from the domain controller.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
