SYMPTOMSOn a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based computer that has an Award 4.51 PG basic input/output system (BIOS), when you disable communications port 2 (COM2), assign interrupt request line (IRQ) 2 to COM2, and then restart the computer, the following fatal system error occurs:
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because IRQ2 is a cascade interrupt for IRQ8 through IRQ15 and is not available for assignment to a COM port. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. Additional query words: device pnp plug and play
