ID: Q247754

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

When you print to the HiJaak 4.5 Print Capture printer, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following error message after the printing process seems to be complete:

Error -252 in D:\WINNT\System32\spool\PRINTERS\000081.EMF:
General read error. Bad sector or file corrupt.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by a change to the Enhanced Metafile (EMF) print processor in Windows 2000.

RESOLUTION

The second .emf file that is referenced in the error message is irrelevant. You can safely ignore the error message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Print capture is a major function of HiJaak 4.5. Its printer driver redirects LPT1 output to a graphic file format it supports.

Because of changes in the EMF print processor in Windows 2000, HiJaak creates an extra .emf file in the process of converting the print capture job. However, the print job is based on the first .emf file and is saved in the graphic file format and with the name you specify in the HiJaak Convert dialog box. The second .emf file is irrelevant and you can safely ignore the error message.
