SYMPTOMSThe Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer tool (Chkupgrd.exe) may quit before finishing and displaying a report when you run it on Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98. For example, when you run Chkupgrd.exe, the files are expanded and the Setup screen appears. "Checking Disk Space" appears briefly on the screen, and then Readiness Analyzer quits without generating a report or an error message. CAUSEThis behavior can occur if you run the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer tool on a dual-boot computer. Readiness Analyzer does not run on computers that dual-boot Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 and Windows 95 or Windows 98. RESOLUTIONRun winnt32 /checkupgradeonly from the Windows 2000 Professional CD-ROM. Because upgrading Windows 95 or Windows 98 on a dual-boot computer is blocked by Setup, removing the other operating system before running the tool is the preferred solution. You cannot upgrade until the other installation process has finished. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
