DLL Registration Causes Access Violation on Terminal Server

SYMPTOMS

The process of registering a DLL, for example using Regsvr32.exe, may cause an access violation message if the registration is performed by a service running in the context of a user account.

Registering the DLL at the Terminal Server console, or from a service running in the context of the LocalSystem account, works correctly.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
