ID: Q100653

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1
  • Microsoft MS-DOS operating system version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 4.0a
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 2.0c

SUMMARY

The Hewlett-Packard (HP) OmniBook 300 contains .EXE files on the Flash read-only memory (ROM). These files are not visible and are not hidden by the MS-DOS ATTRIB command. This is actually a functionality of the Flash ROM implementation.

You may find this confusing if you try to re-create the product icons in the Program Object Item dialog box in Program Manager. If you do this, you cannot find the .EXE file from which to re-create the icons.

MORE INFORMATION

To re-create an icon using the version of Windows supplied with the OmniBook 300, you must manually type the name of the .EXE file. From the File menu in Program Manager, choose New, select Program Item, and then type the command line in the New Program Item dialog box.

For example, to create an icon for Microsoft Excel, type the following:

EXCEL.EXE
Path information is not necessary.
